The brief this week was for a fish that you hadn’t heard of before.
In my reading up of Chondrichthyes I discovered Cladoselache fyleri who was a pre-Elasmobranch shark from the Devonian period.

Unfortunately I missed last week but I'm back for
I've seen a lot of teleosts, but elasmobranchs can be colourful too. Under the right light conditions the blue-spot ray's blue patches are almost hypnotic. I love them.

A shark both eely and early: Frey et al describe the full body of the Late Devonian Phoebodus. They find it to be stem-elasmobranch, possibly parking the minimum divergence of elasmobranchs and holocephalans right back in the mid-Devonian.
