The Silmarils herealdic device – my redraw of Tolkien's own heraldic design. Made for Inktober 2021 prompt "Crystal"

J. R. R. Tolkien invented a whole system of elvish heraldry, but there is only one known device that is designated for objects instead of a person: the Silmarils.

The culture of Meropis is based largely on Melniboné, but the implication I tried to give is that their fauna is pure D&D.

Note the Owlbear heraldry, the teddy owlbear, and the taxidermied featherless Owlbear.

Gnomish houses tend to be more function over form regarding their heraldry, with notable inventions of the house dominating the themes, particularly with Rock Gnomes of noble houses. Forest Gnome nobles tend to follow elven customs in regard to their house crests.

There is a city in France named Cerbère (ancient Greek Κέρϐερος / Kerberos).
A classical cerberus is figured on the city coat of arms heraldry, close to the one used for Mamoru Oshii's Kerberos saga.

Hi, I'm a d&d artist, and I'd love to help out if you like my style. I've done sort of coat of arms flag art for a LARP group before. Would love to get into more heraldry, a cool subject. My portfolio is here: https://t.co/JfBdg2srhb

Also wrote out on paper and put in the back of my dad's copy of Grant Uden's Dictionary of Chivalry a thematic index, so that you could look up, e.g., all the entries on weapons, or horses, or heraldry, or whatever (since the book is alphabetical and had only a general index)

Hi I'm Abi. I make colourful digital illustrations and I love researching historical art like heraldry, still life symbolism and stained glass, and including references in my modern style.
