On a side note... I don't think you need to limit yourself with only using the roman alphabet! If you wanna do all the sfx fully in Japanese ideograms, it's easier to translate it to your western readers. Like Dragon Ball does here with the "thud". You're free to choose ;)

Playing around w an idea I've had from the start but couldn't try out until I had the basic script in place: "pseudo-ideograms"; glyphs representing single words/stems but that are really only stylised versions of the way those syllables are normally written (here: 'ao', "ocean")
