@SonicCrash378 I was going to say that maybe the Bros’ plumbing business was established by Mario’s grandfather who passed it down to Jumpman and then Jumpman passes it down to Mario and Luigi, which they would then transform into a partnership…
@StarBlues11 But the thing is he probably had to do it for a living, especially as an Italian immigrant living in New York. And that motivated him to work harder. There is that belief that Mario juggled multiple jobs in the classics but that could’ve been Jumpman, that could’ve been his dad.
@StarBlues11 Yeah and I think it’d make the most sense if Jumpman was Mario and Luigi’s father instead of Mario himself because he probably did some pretty unethical things in his youth like caging up Cranky Kong and training him as a circus animal, separating him from his family…
So their grandfather would likely be the founder of the Mario family’s plumbing business in Italy. Mario and Luigi’s father, “Jumpman,” inherited ownership and passed it down to his sons after immigrating to America.
Mario and Luigi renamed it to “Super Mario Brothers Plumbing.”
@CreationSake204 @TomAndTheCats I think in the movie Jumpman could still go by “Mario” or “Little Mario” but it would moreso be referring to his last name like Mario Mario, Luigi Mario.
And Charles Martinet is apparently going to be voicing a character called Giuseppe who could actually be Mario’s father.
@TomAndTheCats Cranky (who was then known by his real name, “Donkey Kong” or “Donkey Kong Sr.”) would’ve been captured by Jumpman and trained as a circus animal. He escaped but was recaptured, then DK Jr. found a way to free him. They would both go back home to the Jungle Kingdom after that.
@BalisfixVa So with that being said, Cranky is more likely to have fought Mario’s lookalike father in his prime instead of Mario.
Jumpman also went by “Mario,” presumably bc of his last name. His full name is “Pio Mario Jr.” or “Papa Pio Mario,” with Jumpman being a nickname.
jumpman is (or was) an animal abuser. he struggled with a plethora of jobs, caged up cranky kong just so he could fulfill his ambitions as a circus entertainer, without realising cranky was from another world and had a family of his own. he was a father to a son that NEEDED him.
so jumpman could’ve grown up without a father for much of his life. and then when his dad did come back from war, he was too traumatised and looking for strength, wanting a son that could live up to his expectations. placing pressure on him to succeed like it were life or death.
…but i will be fucking damned if they reference mario bombs away and confirm that mario’s grandfather was a war veteran or something.
i’ve speculated that jumpman is in his 60s, so he would’ve been born in 1963. vietnam started in 1955, just 8 years before he was born.
