The French writer Colette (1873-1954) owned a picture of the Ladies of Llangollen, a print like this one. She wrote: 'I would like to have known the faces of these two ladies as they were when they were young and radiant with mutual trust.' #MuseumsUnlocked
The Ladies disliked having their portraits taken and this print (also @britishmuseum) is based on sketches made secretly by Mary Parker during a visit to their home at Plas Newydd, Llangollen in 1828. Eleanor Butler died in 1829 and Sarah Ponsby in 1831. #MuseumsUnlocked
