Born on 29th Aug 1937 at Vizianagaram in Andhra to Venkataswamy Naidu and Jaggayamma, Mangathayaru was named after Alamelumanga Devi of Thiruchanoor.

Naidu garu had assumed charge as the principal of the music college in Vizianagaram in 1936.
