Thestrals are ornithischian dinosaurs descended from ceratopsians—the group that includes Triceratops.

They are basically what happens when ceratopsian dinosaurs evolve the way maniraptorans gave rise to birds.

Sure, don't mind reposting this. Enough birds use stick tools, why not maniraptorans? Not quite the anvil that was already mentioned, but using anvils also not a bad idea given manual dexterity of certain species.
