The "abomasum" is the last chamber and the true stomach of the cattle, because it releases acids and enzymes to truly digest the cud.
This includes the bacteria and archaea that fermented the cud, because the cow also needs to take back the nutrients the microbes consumed!
@Liz_Hand The cool thing, Liz, is my first semester biology students are looking for microbes that make antibiotics from mosses, lichen, and the soil. I call them #APBs (antibiotic producing buddies). It's part of the @TinyEarthNet program. @univpugetsound @ASMicrobiology
'Osborne et al. present new methods and software, allowing for more comprehensive analysis of tree root distribution and plant species' interactions with nutrient patches, other plants, and soil microbes.'

Low quality GIF I generated months ago because I can’t get this out of my head when people describe microbes as cosmopolitan & this seems a good excuse to share it 😂 https://t.co/aCMxVRlzQX
Meet some of the microbes that will be in my major project film: The Green Hydra and Stentor coeruleus.
I've had a lot of fun making them look like jelly and trying to figure out their forms.

A compost-filled Trubbish and its regional evolution Compossus! Full of nutritious soil microbes 🦠
This pokemon's an evolution of my regional Trubbish! The symbiotic microbes in its body have made it STRONG 🦠
#Microber22 day 19-the ocean (just like everything else on earth) is full of microbes.Within the ocean they find their sweet spot & thrive but some like to move around. The deeper unclear regions hold many unknowns which we are able to study with new technology. #sciart #scicomm

#Microber2022 14. Community
When I think about community, similarly to @LizahvdAart, I do not only think about microbes.
I am so grateful to all the amazing persons I met via science, from my labmates to all the friends from the scicomm and sciart communities that I met online. https://t.co/dP1qGFW6yV
For International Microorganism Day, some artwork created by my microbiology class...

Hi @FEMSmicro! Here is my contribution to #MicrobeArt2022 and #InternationalMicroorganismDay. "Shapes of microbes" made with watercolours and ink.
One of my hobbies is drawing cartoons about microbes, and I always aim to communicate science through art and humor. Here, two bacteria wonder about their own existence, and also decorate a tree for the season. #MicrobeArt2022 #InternationalMicroorganismDay @FEMSmicro
Our study on ecological change in the leaf microbiome is out in @PLOSBiology! https://t.co/DdtzX5iOvo
Plant leaves contain an ecosystem of microbes that can help or hurt their host. Fungi are essential, but it's tough to study their changes in the wild.
