Was watching a recent vid regarding the evolutionary history of whales and was inspired to try doodling an anthro pakicetus design.
Pakicetus, a whale ancestor that was small, lived on the land near the shore, almost wolflike, with webbed feet and long snouts for digging around for food near water. They eventually went further out to sea and grew massively larger.

I should do more paleoart....this is part of a bigger illustration I did 3 years ago.
pakicetus and ambulocetus and a modern humpback whale I think, I'm actually not sure
spec evo thing?? bipedal and omnivorous descendant of pakicetus with h a n d s, i call them whalets
Here's some whale-like creatures known as hexawhales, distant descendants of hexapodal terrestrial animals that resemble Pakicetus of Earth. These animals are found in Condimentia (a seed planet I've made up)
Left: Oceanic hexawhale
Right: Riverine hexawhale
my not so bad attempt on pakicetus, a whale ancestor, clutching its catch as it swims

Happy #WorldWhaleDay! Here's a reconstruction of Ye Olde Whale, Pakicetus, that I made last year, with a lil' nod to its evolutionary heritage with hippos.
Probably Pakicetus. Funny dog. https://t.co/nD3ZUff0Hs
It's hard to believe this magnificent animal evolved from Pakicetus, a goat-sized, four-legged creature that scientists recognise as one of the first cetaceans (the group of marine animals that includes dolphins and whales). https://t.co/MBZM83R2J8
Pakicetus - ancient whale or snooty hippo? Went for a chonkier, more sparsely-haired reconstruction of Ye Olde Whale.
I hesitate to differentiate my merfolk from humans with behaviors that "evolved" along a different path. I mean... they did, it's like comparing Pakicetus to Ambulocetus. But I've always been worried that if they ACT differently than us, it'll reinforce racist narratives/tropes.
Beach romping between my oarfish character and @TrashRatFelix's pakicetus
I'm tired tonight, so we only did these 2,5 experimental pieces on the #paleostream
Pakicetus, Zhangheotherium and... something.
