Beautiful concept/production work drawings that exude such atmosphere. I’m aware that colour art is always more eye grabbing to the casual observer, but for me B&W work is my true love. Drawing on old masters such as Dore and Piranesi for inspiration.

There is a profound visual intelligence, an instinct for association and process, the way Piranesi’s Carceri or Mapplethorpe’s flowers can be seen as intelligent. Photography’s authority is used only to challenge our certitudes, starting with our own material being.
Wednesday 27th April - The Round Tower from Piranesi's 'Carceri d'Invenzione' (Imaginary Prisons), a series of 16 prints depicting hellish subterranean vaults and machinery, and which were a major influence on artists and writers such as M.C. Escher and Edgar Allan Poe.
Piranesi - original, dalle, jax diffusion
Great example of the difference. Dalle is "wrong" but more "correct" looking, and vice versa for diffusion.

Our word of the day is ‘capriccio’ – an architectural fantasy composed of both real and fictional components. This drawing by 18th c. architect and antiquarian Giovanni Battista Piranesi is a great example and can be enjoyed in our #HiddenMasterpieces exhibition, open today! 🎉
The Temple of Isis at Pompeii ~ 1788
Francesco Piranesi etched this piece while Louis Jean Desprez brought the image to life with watercolours.
