While the animation effort falls apart, Kawabata's (thematic) insistence on reflective shots and blocked framing throughout the episode are pretty cool.
I don't think he would get hung up on that though, I'm not saying Sonic shouldn't feel emotion or anything but I feel like he'd just move on. He's been battling against Eggman for a while now, the reframing here is weird.
