Of course there’s some bias against "cutesy" manga, but starting with a realistic style like Naoki Urasawa might soften them.

Although I suspect, they wouldn’t react that harshly if you draw something like Smurf.

While I was working on a comic (left) I realised that my linework is always really funky but it turns out i had pen pressure settings both on brush pen AND the CSP pressure settings so both pressure settings conflicted
so I was lining with broken pressure settings for 2 years

The character designs in the original Battlefield games were so outstanding because they featured distinct color themes that never felt jarring or chaotic, with equipment and camouflage combinations that were balanced.
They aren't realistic, but they look comforting.
