Sapodilla/Sawo. This sweet fruit has an amazing taste, it had high quantities of fructose and sucrose, contributing to its sweetness.

Confectioners starting making synthetic following WWII when it was popularised due to inclusion in soldiers' rations. Before, it was made of natural latex tapped from ~ the tree. Looks like chicle is making a comeback.
