Another early reference for the collection was "La fièvre d'Urbicande", a graphic novel by Belgian comic artists François Schuiten and Benoît Peeters from 1985. A dark lattice structure that grows until it envelops Earth, a fitting backstory for O B S C V R V M 🤔
The city as we imagine it, soft city of illusion, myth, aspiration, and nightmare, is as real, maybe more real, than the hard city one can locate on maps.

These are really something else. The Comic Book artist François Schuiten is a whizz at these illustrations. I have posted a few by him but not these amazing trains.
The #Eisner for best U.S. edition of International Material goes to The Shadow of a Man, by Benoît Peeters and François Schuiten, translation by Stephen D. Smith. Congrats to them and publisher IDW.
@MackleNG OMG YOU LIKE BLAME SO OF COURSE : Almost eveything in the series Les cités obscures by Schuiten & Peeters.

建物の描き込みが凄まじく、実物見て本当に買ってよかったと幸せになれた作品でした
Today I'm writing about François Schuiten and Benoît Peeters' marvellous city Blossfeldstadt in their graphic novel 'The Shadow of a Man'. Its skyscrapers are inspired by the photographs of magnified plant stems and leaves in Karl Blossfeldt's 1928 book 'Unformen der Kunst'
From "La fièvre d'Urbicande" by François Schuiten and Benoît Peeters, 1983.
