The Marquesan Swamphen (Porphyrio paepae) is an extinct species from French Polynesia. This may have survived until 1937. It’s only known depiction may be being killed by a dog in this painting by Paul Gaugin.

Now the Marquesan Swamphen P. paepae was described only in 1988 from 600 y/o bones found in French 1902 painting shows this being killed by a dog. has seen it in 1937. It must have become extinct soon afterwards
