The Timurid Emperor Sultan Husayn Bayqara and Turkic poet and statesman, Ali-Shir Nava'i.
Bayqara and Nava’i were not only schoolmates but also served in the same government. They both changed the course of Asian history.
They are buried together in the city of Herat.
There were 4 tasks that Sher Shah Suri on his deathbed regretted he was unable to accomplish.
*To shift the Afghans of his native Roh to Punjab as a shield against the Timurid-Mughals.
*To raze Lahore so that such a great city might not exist as an easy prey for the Timurids.

Genghis Khan was the atom bomb of his time, but his Timurid distant relatives in Afghanistan and Mughal descendants in India patronised some of the world's most beautiful art and architecture. Timurid-era Herat was one of the world's greatest cities for artists and scholars.
OTD# (11th May 1857), the 1st parties of the 3rd cavalry from Meerut reached Delhi & declared Bahadur Shah Zafar as the Emperor of India.
They saw in the Timurid-Mughal Emperor political, religious, & authoritative leadership for the struggle of independence.
Illustration shows Tamerlane, Jagatai tribesman and Tajik pesant infantryman.
The Timurid army was multiethnic but Turkic/Mongol cavalry and Tajik infantry/siege forces made up the bulk of it.

"What though the field be lost,
All is not lost.
The unconquerable will & courage,
Never submit or yield".
Apt words for the Timurid-Mughal Emperor Babur, who despite facing numerous trials, succeeded in the end through sheer will & courage.
Did you know that Emperor Humayun was an adept archer? In fact he was considered as the most skilful archer in the history of the dynasty. It is said that no Timurid Emperor had suffered as many arrow wounds as Humayun had in his life.

On this day (21 April, 1526), Babur defeated the Lohdi's at the battle of Panipat, establishing the Timurid presence in Northern India.
In my view, Babur never established a new dynasty, but rather, revitalised the Timurids after they were ousted from Transoxiana.

"Zamburak" (#Persian زمبورک "Little Wasp") was a specialized form of self-propelled #artillery, featuring small #cannons fired from swivel-mounts on #camels
Zamburaks most likely originated in the Timurid or Safavid empires and became highly popular in the 18th century.
