The village of 'Dragley Beck', now part of Ulverston, is the birthplace of Sir John Barrow, English statesman, and one of the founders of the Royal Geographical Society. It gets it's name from the dragon that legend says, sleeps underneath it.

Here's a curious bit of #folklore from #Ulverston.
During Victorian times a travelling circus was in town. One of it's elephants collapsed and died during a parade through town. It's said to have been buried in the Quaker's cemetery on Birkrigg Common.
