April 3-4, 1974:
The original Super Outbreak pummeled the Eastern US with 148 tornadoes in 24 hours. An astonishing 30 tornadoes were violent, a record 7 of which were rated F5. Many large cities sustained direct hits. Over 300 people were killed & 5.4k were injured.

October 4, 2013:
A late-season Central Plains outbreak brought a number of strong/violent tornadoes to Nebraska and Iowa.
Two mile-wide EF4s were confirmed, one in Wayne, NE and the other near Pierson, Iowa.
18 tornadoes were confirmed and 17 people were injured.
