#EpigraphyTuesday From the shadows of Rome's disastrous battle at Teutoburg Forest (9CE), a memorial in living colour to a #Roman centurion of the 18th legion Marcus Caelius, from Bononia, set up by Publius depicting him brother & his 2 freedmen (from the Xanten Museum) 1/4.
On this day in 69 the Batavi defeat a Roman army near the Dutch city of Nijmegen. The Romans lost 2 legions, while 2 others were controlled by the rebels. They even managed to capture Castra Vetera (Xanten). One year later the Romans retaliate and the revolt of the Batavi ends.

Not dissing Siegfried in the slightest, but I always tend to forget he was King of Xanten.
I mostly blame his humbled and heroic demeanor, seeing as how he always maintains this air of a warrior.
I think that's what I like most about him. He's a king of the people.
