Jean is presented as a moral compass for Cyclops, but the writing does not make her look good. She meets Sinister’s wife, recognizes they’re going through something similar, and then basically doesn’t help at all. Later, she just goes around deleting memories.

ultimately, Logan (born James) becomes Wolverine without ever seeing one (named by quarry workers who happen to connect him to it) and then fights Dog (born Logan) who happens to look a lot like Sabertooth, and in the process Rose (NOT jean) dies.

I will say, though: the homoeroticism of his modern-day love triangle (which led to the current Krakoan housing situation with Scott) is absolutely there in his other triangles. He cares a lot about Dog, and Smitty transparently considers him part of the Rose deal

The first issues are a fakeout—Wolverine is NOT the child with the animal name, the last name Logan, and the abusive home life: actually, he’s the rich kid! that’s where his heart of gold comes from. And he was in a love triangle with a redhead from the BEGINNING

I give this a very confident “don’t worry about it,” haha. The only woman is treated very poorly by the writing, Apocalypse’s whole deal is reduced to being mad she thought he was ugly, and the new Dawn of X backstory for him is way better!
