Bloodtype and his over-the-top, brutal "heroism" seems like a direct send up of both the EXTREME! Image superheroes and the growing grim and gritty trend that came out of the '80s.

I think it's important here that we're seeing J'onn and Diana as the kind of glue that holds the entire League together. J'onn as the mind, Diana here as the truth. Even if the truth at this point is passive.
I love the incorporation into the history of the Guardians and the Controllers, and the hint at another possible origin for Vandal Savage, even if Know Man's strategy is kind of naff.
Why do women's costumes always seem to develop battle holes around the butt?
I also think it's interesting how quickly the Leaguers realize that this is just a distraction and how relatively vicious Martian Manhunter is in dispatching them.
Not that this isn't useful, but it's interesting to see a recap like this in the final issue of a three-part mini. I guess they did another one in the previous issue, but the incorporation was a bit more seamless. (I actually kind of miss the days when this was the norm).
Though, I do think it's horrible that, of all the characters, the only one that needed a tragedy to shock him out of his dream-state, was J'onn. Just seems mean to fridge his family. Again.
