Because setting fire to expectations has always kind of been a theme running through the series.
That for all the weirdness. All the magick. All the black science. All the angels and demons. And time travel.
It's just about us. And the connections between us when we're at our highest and lowest points.
None of the moonchild's coronation sounds particularly like fun. For anyone.
I also think it's interesting that for all the grand ideas we've seen float across the series, the "volcano day" incident is the millennial succession of this guy to the throne.
The style Jill Thompson is using for this arc is very...different. Somewhat more akin to someone like Kent Williams. Very fine lined and scratchy.
Helga definitely has a penchant for often not being fully dressed. Might be a model thing. The Black Grail information is also creepy and the tarot interpretation seems rather negative.
Interesting that we get this story shown again in a couple pages. Like the actual "end of the world" is important.
