I spent much of the winter shooting this: The incredibly dynamic Orion Nebula. This is one of the most-captured objects in our sky, and my goal was to capture it in a way you've never seen it before. This was done using 6 different filters and over 40 hours worth of exposures.
These are all photos captured with my telescope from my suburban backyard over the last few months. Sometimes I still can't believe this is possible.
I used a 12" telescope to capture the aftermath of a star meeting its violent end. Supernovae are one of the most incredible spectacles occurring in nature. This image shows the incomprehensible forces blasting away the surrounding nebulae and creating this beautiful structure.
I spent several hours in dark skies capturing this: my deepest look at the Trifid Nebula in true color. This pushed my 8” telescope to its limits and reveals just how chaotic star formation can be.
A deep look at the leftmost star of Orion's belt reveals an incredible expanse of dust and color. There's treasures like this hidden all over the sky just waiting to be revealed.
This was captured using an 8" telescope modified to be much more sensitive to light.
I've also turned sales back on for this weekend only if you want to get my 2023 Calendar. I was a little overzealous with my last order so have some extras I can sell. Get your order in now while supplies last! https://t.co/7jnL2J9O2t
CELESTIAL EVENT ALERT! The evening of the 7th Mars will be briefly occulted by the moon, and reemerge on the other side an hour later. This is a great time to pull out the telescope! Here's a composite image of the one in '20, one of my favorite events since I started doing this.
Some of my favorite images I've released since I began astrophotography. While our moon is still my muse, the sun, planets, and deep space are an endless source of inspiration. See if you can spot the international space station, it's in here twice!
I took a photo of something 2.5 MILLION light years away: The Andromeda galaxy. This was done by combining over 30 hours of exposures captured over a couple weeks. This was done entirely from my backyard using a telescope that is shorter than the keyboard I'm typing this on.
A project years in the making: Some of the highlights from our solar system. This is a composite image created using photos captured with my amateur gear. Can you find everything I included in the pic?
