Farewell Chris Achilleos ♥️

Covers for Alan Garner's Red Shift.

Covers for Susan Cooper's Over Sea, Under Stone. (Especially like the one with just the stones which is actually under the blue one's dust jacket).

Losey's Figures In A Landscape is brilliant. A sort of gritty Rogue Male-esque narrative of pursuit through brutal Andalusian landscapes. Wonderfully ambiguous and mysterious with virtually no info about the manic pair of Malcolm McDowell and Robert Shaw, both superb leads.

Sous Le Signe Du Taureau is Grangier without the action. Gabin is fine but its industrial drama requires someone more like Verneuil to make it work. Looks gorgeous though as it's from that late 60s period when French cinematography made everything grey and red look glorious.

Agnès Varda and Jacques Demy.

Underworld U.S.A is relentlessly grim and similar in style and tone to the other Fuller noirs I've seen so far. His use of close-ups is almost disorientating and mesmerising simultaneously though his films are exhausting too. Ending is unusually similar to Godard's Breathless.

Some of Carel Weight's eerie paintings of post-war suburbia. Some of these are genuinely unnerving on closer inspection.

Grangier's Le Sang à La Tête: passable affair drama with Georges Simenon's story spiced up by Audiard's sharp dialogue. Gabin is going through the motions but is still entertaining in his nonchalance, especially in some of the stills where he's clearly just taking the piss.
