Personally, I think Quirks are great. They’re not nearly as mechanically or structurally impressive as something like Nen, but where they shine is how they integrate with the setting as a platform to flesh out characters and present its ideas about society, legacy and heroism.
At heart, he’s so warm and kind. The duty he feels bound to is antithetical to who he is. He’s so repulsed by the things he does that he feels physically sick and emotionally tortured. He’s at the edge, and only those close to him can prevent him from falling. It’s so resonant.
Please appreciate my favourite nihilistic edgelord. He’s just a bit lost, he doesn’t know any better.
An underrated aspect of the Hunter Exam is the use of those hemotropic butterflies. Awesome imagery there.
