I wonder what the chances are that Ranka's purple eye colour is due to her contact lenses.
From what I can find coloured prescription lenses do exist.
It's also within Risa's character to get Ranka to wear coloured contacts to look cuter. Risa might even be wearing some too

I'm fairly convinced Eriko from Marimite was one of the inspirations for Ritsu's design. It might not seem obvious at first, but I saw the 2004 fan art Kakifly drew of her it just screamed Ritsu to me. He was also a big fan of her
