Appreciated it much more the second time. It's a phantasmagorical journey through a bleak but beautiful world on the brink of inevitable destruction. Lots of familiar tropes, but the way they're brought together is something pretty unique.

The melancholic malaise of winter (also Cowboy Bebop) inspired me to watch Wolf's Rain again. Hard to believe I haven't seen it since 2004 or so, but there was something about it that refused to leave my soul.

As he points out, the Maeda storyboards -- which despite all the aesthetic differences do follow the final Q quite closely in many (sometimes rather revealing) ways -- dispense with the purple-red blockade altogether and JUST give us an ATF that 13 and 09 need to break thru!

The images flashing behind Gendo when "Born Evil" starts playing are, at least partly, taken straight from EoE's chaotic Human Instrumentality flashed image montage. (Compare the added red streaks/smears.) Ctd.->

@def_not_ireul Kaji was redrawn for 21' so that he would more closely resemble Kaworu, as well.

They both die in front of crosses, also.
