An important lesson in plein air painting is learning to reduce details.
There's simply no way to paint every detail in a reasonable amount of time. You have to reduce and simplify the scene into something you can convey. Which is part of why plein air is such a great exercise.
When you study from life/photos, you need to design your values.
Don't just copy values without thinking. Realize that you can push and pull things to express different messages in your work. This should happen even in studies.
You can learn a lot about painting if you take an hour every day to do a master study. 💪

Nature does not produce good images.
Making images with good values is your job. Make conscious choices to design good value arrangements.
