A friend did this so lemme just combat my awful perception of myself a little there (oh am I gonna regret this). #artvsartist2023
@heathenfang you've seen mine already but why not share him again
here, have a brilliant example of a situation where this take can't apply.
shaded, incomplete refs of my horse Chiron, and pieces of him from @/the_dawner - who goes all out with their artistic vision. do the colors n markings match? hell no. but they captured him PERFECTLY.
fun, it's the exact same take again. make me. not everyone's oc is toony n looks anything like what it's supposed to be unshaded. hell - i know, outrageous - some people prioritize their ocs' "vibe", shapes, facial/anatomical features over the exact shape/shade of a tiny marking. https://t.co/JzmgVULROF
And the more you do that, the more you'll eventually be able to draw from memory if you wish.
Here's something I drew way back when I never used references vs from memory after using refs for a good while. Same character, pretty much a redraw.
It's something you just have to teach yourself through trial and error, but once you get it, you just do it instinctually and it's fucking magical.
This is a good example of a drawing of mine done with the help of literally countless refs (and the hands were based off my own lol)
Drew something real fast.
Hypothetical skull of my spinosaurus character. Just a quick fun doodle so it may not make much sense.
@96caskets Asterion's a tigon and my main fursona, Chiron a Percheron-Mustang cross and my secondary
@VYIDAE high-key the edgiest
somewhat of a complicated spin on a werewolf so i guess you know why
There is like, no difference. January > December https://t.co/iXpCgsJiZb
