That's why she invites Veronica too. She wants to get Archie's attention but she isn't doing it to hurt Veronica. If anything, she could've just invited Archie to dinner alone.
Veronica, however, instantly assumes the worse of Betty even tho she currently has Archie's attention.
The premise is, Betty sadly watches Archie and Veronica at Pops, and Jughead offers that something that can win points with Archie is that Betty's a good cook. This gives her an idea to host va for dinner.
In the comics, Betty is kind, but not a pushover. She's sensitive, too.
I love Betty Cooper so much. Anyone who says how Betty is depicted on the show is inaccurate because she's not "nice" enough has not read the 60-90s books. Miss Petty Cooper never let's things go!
