While Ahtal-Ka was in development, the MH Team wanted GU's Final Boss to be fun, something that combined aspects of large monsters with giant monsters in the series in a single hunt, and wanted it to be able to create and manipulate large structures at will as well.

Elder Dragons aren't really a classification, they're just monsters that can't be classified or grouped with other known species. If the monster can't be classified, it is made an Elder Dragon, and many of them have special abilities that can be considered natural disasters.

Xeno'jiiva is called the "Dark Light Dragon" from the glowing organ in its chest. This organ is connected throughout Xeno'jiiva's body like to its front limbs and tail, and it is able to release energy from this organ to greatly amplify the power to those parts.

Though Gore Magala and Chaotic Gore Magala are in the ??? class in the 4th Gen games, they aren't in that class anymore from a lore standpoint. In Hunter's Encyclopedia 4 both are recognized as Elder Dragons and are even in that class for the book.

To give a Dreadqueen Rathian a harsh appearance, the MH Team made her body more purplish. Dreadqueen Rathian's body is discolored due to poison constantly leaking out of her thorns, giving a toxic image that suggests that poison literally bled out of her.

Shen Gaoren is known to see anything within its territory as a threat, including fortresses and towns. It will attack those places because it instinctively sees them as a threat to its turf. It doesn't see hunters as a threat, so it is known to ignore them while they attack it.

Glavenus's basic concept was a land-based Rathalos, one that had many types of projectiles, but its design motif was a Carnotaurus. Key parts of its design and abilities included swordsmen, knights, blades, fire, and even tanks.

Because of time constraints, Mizutsune was never made into a Snake Wyvern. It would've taken too much time to properly program its movements, especially since it was using a different skeleton that the MH Team weren't used to, so they made its body longer and made it a Leviathan.
