The opening sequence was supposed to feature Indy along the Great Wall of China. Sadly, the Chinese authorities weren’t into the idea and the script had to be rewritten. They made some unacceptable requirements and increased the price of the not imported materials.

A good moment to remember Indy's life.
His parents wedding, his adventure beside Pancho Villa, his first wife, Deirdre Campbell... There's a wonderful story behind the hero of the hat and the whip.
Happiest Birthday, Indiana.

I always loved Karen Allen in this outfit. It was filmed at San Francisco City Hall. the seat of government for the City and County of San Francisco. The structure's dome is taller than that of the United States Capitol by 42 feet. A huge ending for a lovely beginning.

Although the Star Wars producer Gary Kurtz did not have a direct relation with Raiders, but a close friendship with almost all the cast and crew in Tunisia an London, he did not want to miss the creative process of his colleagues., always with his camera on.

We must conclude that Indy and Marion had too much free time while filming the opening of the ark at Elstree Studios. Tied to a post, they could only admire the work of the FX pros in the stage. Spielberg was in charge of giving them conversation and keeping them up.

Chris Walas made a wonderful work here. Characters' heads were constructed with gelatin skins over plastic skulls. Belloq's head (Paul freeman) was filled with blood bags and rigged with small detonations, with pyrotechnic effects added via optical animation.

"Reynolds built an incredible set for the opening of the Ark, and we filmed the long shots there. Then I went with him choosing certain parts of the set and sent then to ILM in Marin County, where we had to film the first shots, with local extras playing Nazis."

It was attached a map showing the Crew boat loading point, the submarine bunker and the Production office in hangar 3 to the lists of scenes and actors in Port de la Pallice, La Rochelle. Some extras complained that it doesn't place the WC spot and the pick-up van 🤣.

Apparently, several of the sequences filmed aboard the Bantu Wind were improvised "along the day". Let's say, Spielberg's last minute ideas. Like the soldier throwing the butt inside the ventilation shaft, or the crew cheering Indy when he gets on the submarine.

The first day the production team arrived at La Rochele, it was raining and the Atlantic seemed uninvited. It was impossible to film anything. Same happened and the second day. The third day the sea had calmed down and they managed to shoot through all day.
