Painter Henry Moore was born in York 1831. Moore was an English marine and landscape painter. It was whilst sailing across the Mediterranean Sea in 1873 that Moore made the sketches for this impressive painting, ‘Rough Weather in the Mediterranean’.

He worked for the Illustrated London News, becoming a professional landscape watercolourist in his late 30s. He died in Hampshire on 25 December 1900.
