The prolific 17th-18th century portrait painter Godfrey Kneller died #OnThisDay 1723. He was court painter for the British Monarchy, 1689-1723, during which time he painted 10 reigning European monarchs and 8 portraits collectively known as the Hampton Court Beauties.
