23. Dark. It's not even just the edgelord factor, I just really like the less-surface-level logic behind it and so many of my favorites ARE the type. Shoutout to Piers for finally giving us the Dark type Gym we deserved.

18. Skull. Best music, best leader, funniest Grunts... they're Team Rocket done better in every conceivable way.

17. Leon. I love him so much. They always like to introduce you to the Champion partway through the game, but they've never done it so early and sprinkled throughout the whole game. You feel his prescience at all times and it's such good motivation to reach him. He's so STRONK.

16. Nanu. Easy. First off, he instantly gets points for Dark type and loving cats. He's also immensely depressed and cynical. I guess I can just relate to him in a lot of ways and I love every line of dialogue that comes out of his mouth.

14. Kukui. I thought none of them could top Sycamore with his generosity, but Kukui is the best actual character. He feels like a cool uncle and his Masked Royal bit is so good. He's also the best battler of them all, no contest. He's passionate, and has unique relationships.

13. Tie between Blue and Hop. Hau and Gladion could also fight for the title depending on the day. But Hop is by far the best written rival in the series, and Blue is so charming and likeable to me.

12. I legitimately cannot choose. "Trainer" is just too broad, because almost every single major character ever is a trainer. I love the human characters in Pokémon so much, I NEED more specific parameters to choose them by.

7. Victini, easily. I just love the clever idea behind him being that the power of winning is just the belief in yourself. Victini basically tricks people into having enough confidence to achieve!

6. It's too hard to choose. I think Dragapult is a better concept, but it hasn't appeared in any other media to catch up with Garchomp and all its cool appearances. So it's a tie between them. Kommo-O gets an honorary mention, but they really did him dirty.
