Breakers Revenge (1998, Visco) - Neo Geo
RGBPi Raw Pixels vs. PVM-20L2MD RGB
More gorgeous artwork from one of my favorite underrated fighters! Love the look of the misty mountain folding screen behind him.
Shadow Dancer: The Secret of Shinobi (1990, Sega) - Genesis/Mega Drive
PC Emulator vs. Sanyo DS13320 Composite
Love the way this dude's armor goes from grey to a shiny black metallic appearance.
Coryoon (1991, Naxat) - PC Engine
RGBPi Raw Pixels vs. PVM-20L2MD RGB
This game is just too cute man.
City Connection (1985, Jaleco) - Arcade
Raw Pixels vs. PVM-20L2MD RGB
Crazy how smooshed our girl Clarice is here when the pixels are square! I always love seeing which arcade games did this.
Shadow Dancer: The Secret of Shinobi (1990, Sega) - Genesis/Mega Drive
PC Emulator vs. Sanyo DS13320 Composite
Ristar (1995, Sega) - Genesis/Mega Drive
RPi Emulator vs. PVM-20L2MD RGB
I am stunned by the way the CRT's deeper contrast transforms the purples and blues here.
@DTerryM It's an interesting question and BoF has a variety of skin tones to compare, but I don't know if I'd say CRTs are the reason. Likely just the way that we whitewash most media in the west. I think they used warmer tones knowing l the CRT would change Ryu to match the concept art.
Breath of Fire (1993, Capcom) - SNES
Raw Pixels vs. Sony KV-13M51 Composite
Was curious how this would look on a consumer set. While the smaller screen and composite input does result in some artifacting, I think this looks great too!
Breath of Fire (1993, Capcom) - SNES
Raw Pixels vs. PVM-20L2MD S-Video
Breath of Fire's emulated color palette always felt off to me and now I completely understand why.
Contra III: The Alien Wars (1992, Konami) - SNES
Raw Pixels vs. PVM-20L2MD S-Video
Really loving what the CRT does for the metallic gradient on Bill's guns here!
