@citizenveurm @CathcartCem @CathcartHeritag Yes, I think so! Some very descriptive passages and ahead of its time. It's nice to read such a drama set in our local area of Glasgow, Lanarkshire and the Clyde. J. G. Lockhart was the son-in-law of Sir Walter Scott. Published 1830.
Last of the paintings from the Bothwell Castle private collection - important as you can see the new "Bothwell Castle" in the background - the old outlived the new. Map shows the buildings in relation to each other & the postcard shows a more detailed view of this lost house...
Here is a list of the community-led campaigns and pages of interest within Lanarkshire which are working to save our historic buildings and estates for everyone and a link to their Facebook pages. Please let me know if I have missed any! https://t.co/9cFRTbIwzR
@McalorumRussell @TheCastleHunter @Fluffy_LeMonde Another park where once stood a great house/tower house is Douglas Support, recently the subject of a community buy-out @ViewparkTrust , I believe the steps at the front remain...
@molach95 @EggBanana @Lenniesaurus Similar to German papagei as well. Here's my Popinjay memorabilia, related to Sir Walter Scott's novel Old Mortality, which was based on an episode from Memorie of the Somervilles - the parrot was a target
@Gregor_notwork @Lenniesaurus Yes, Popinjay and also related to the German papagei - probably a common origin again. I collected a few Popinjay related illustrations and a pilgrim badge!
@gmacg_1 @HistEnvScot @welovehistory @SLLeisCulture @TheCastleHunter @TheCastleGuy @SMacGal @Fluffy_LeMonde Forgot this amazing coloured engraving of Bothwell! Uploaded as well now
Last night was Michaelmas Night - I love this poem and illustration from "The Fireside Book", a lovely publication that my Uncle from Kirkfieldbank bought me every Christmas.
New cover photo for Lost Houses of the Clyde Valley FB group - Douglas Castle, old and new
Engraving of Corra Linn with lovely detail of the castle and the mill. Dates from 1821 @TheFallsOfClyde @VsitLanarkshire @HistEnvScot @newlanarkwhs @SLLeisCulture
