Today is Michaelmas, which always reminds me of this poem - it has everything I love - old roads and trees, lonely houses, spooky happenings and history echoing down the centuries... and even an owl! Of course, the old Cambusnethan Kirkyard by the Clyde is dedicated to St Michael
"The Mother's Lesson" - This gorgeous painting depicting a scene in a Wishaw home is by George Washington Brownlaw (1835-1876) - does anyone know anything about the artist? "Interior painted on the spot/Wishaw, Lanarkshire." @Fluffy_LeMonde @jacksloanart @NL_Heritage
@LanarkshireHer1 This is the John Fleming/Joseph Swan view:
Page from The Illustrated London News 1882 - I felt like a real collector when this arrived in the post! If the Keepers House is restored, we can frame this for the wall! @Fluffy_LeMonde @jacksloanart @SLLeisCulture @OssianLore See post on Lost Houses: https://t.co/no4ycAkn2b
@ScottClydeTrail @jacksloanart @HousendHeritage Birkwood in better days - I hope it's rescued
Such an competition was brought to life by Sir Walter Scott in his novel of the Covenanting times "Old Mortality", based on a real event which took place at Dalserf, where James Somerville of Cambusnethan won. Based on this we feel Cambusnethan can claim the Popinjay symbol!
It has everything - old roads, old buildings and history echoing down the centuries...
