Feeling very Monet today after watching Andrew Marr’s superb documentary on Monet - his life and obsession with his beautiful water lily pond.
There’s something so restful and quiet about a classic Still Life painting...
I would have loved to meet George lll.He founded the Royal Academy of Arts;he was very interested in science(natural philosophy as it was called);he loved the natural world(he purchased Maria Merian’s Metamorphosis artwork).....Sadly, plagued by illness & was blind at his death
Did u know? Science & art have grown up together.Without cameras,it was the only way 2 record the natural world. The work of artists like Moses Harris,1730-87 were vital in celebrating nature. He painted the first Brown Hawker dragonfly(Aeshna grandis)used for i.d purposes #MHHSBD
Did u know? Dragonflies took to the air long before dinosaurs roamed the earth. Due to the larger oxygen content in the atmosphere, they were able to grow much bigger and had wingspans of over two feet! #MHHSBD
Cross-species cooperation/collusion/illusion. There are a few b’flies that “con” ants into taking their pupae into their colonies & bringing them up until they are ready to emerge as adults. The Large Blue & The Silver Studded Blue r 2 examples. #MHHSBD https://t.co/ofeFqflx2E
Love the illustrations of Angela Barrett, especially when she works with Susan Hill. Her gorgeous work in the book, Through the Kitchen Window, takes me back to a quieter, gentler time...
@JulieEBull @KevinWa35381605 More buzzing beauty. Here’s some of mine...
“All Creatures Great & Small” My visual homage 2 diversity of shape, form, texture & colour in the invertebrate world. It’s also a nod to their vulnerability. The beautiful green Noble Chafer is a rare BAP listed insect. #MHHSBD https://t.co/ofeFqflx2E
