A random drawing I made back in 2019. I don't think I've shown this on Twitter before.
Trying to practice drawing trees more. What do you think of this "stylized" tree so far?
(I acknowledge my colors aren't so great yet)
So I was invited to an art trade by @BlepFox, and I wanted to give drawing his character a go, but in my current style.
This is the first time I've done an art trade before, so I did find it interesting to see what it'd be like drawing it. Hope you like it anyway!
As I'm currently reading Preston Blair's advanced animation book, I've decided to add some tweaks to my original design, with a slight focus on construction. The proportions are quite different, but it's something I want to play around with more.
What do you think so far?
So, I have this gut feeling that the reason my characters have often lacked appeal is that I haven't studied animal anatomy properly. I don't think a lack of background is the real issue.
Now, do you think these two new designs look slightly better than the previous drawings?
To be honest, I'm kind of surprised my art nowadays looks worse than last year's. It's ironic how much I've studied all this art theory shit and yet for some reason the drawing on the right looks more boring than the one on the left.
It's like I've forgotten how to be intuitive
In my last drawing, I accidentally made the character look scared instead of happy. So I tried making just a few adjustments to make the smile seem more obvious in the way. This is something I need to get a lot better at since I'm bad at it. Does this one look better or worse?
Been playing around with a bit of shape/color theory for character designs. I drew both these designs as a quick test to see how effective it is. This is some hybrid animalI made up.
Be honest. Do you like these designs, or not? And if so, which of the two do you prefer?
While I'm still learning more about concepts like gesture and form, I've decided to further "test the waters" by doing another experimental drawing. This time trying to focus a bit on character expression.
If you happen to like any of these "styles", which one do you like best?
So, I'm not too surprised that all of you have chosen my dog drawing for evaluation. I will be getting onto doing my self-critique soon. But before then, I'd quickly like to know if you think this drawing is in any way slightly better than the previous one. Main focus is gesture.
