@NOLA_bert Indeed; an absolutely great painting.
Fixing Conan, episode 13:
Of his plethora of Conan paintings, Ken Kelly had only one bad dye-job; Conan the Valiant mass-market edition.
Admira Wijaya had one among his Dark Horse covers, as well.
Fixing Conan, episode 11:
Two more examples from 80's Kirk Reinert. (I also fixed Conan's left eye in the first one...it looked a little mangled in the original).
Fixing Conan, episode 8:
In the 80's, Hollywood's portrayal (betrayal) of Conan with brown-hair was popular and a number of pastiche covers by Boris Vallejo and Kirk Reinert depicted Conan with a bad dye-job.
Ken Kelley staunchly refused to do so.
Some of Boris' examples.
@NOLA_bert He looks more like a Pict (they appear in this story) than like a Cimmerian; to me at least. Lol.
Demon's Gate was also released in a trade edition with a Ken Kelly cover.
The story is one of my least favourite Green efforts.
In an upcoming episode we'll discuss how the 2nd and 3rd Conan stories written by Howard, but never published until after his death, fit neatly into the Miller letter.
In fact, here's a Phroilan Gardiner painting from a key scene in one of those now famous stories.
This is my ideology. https://t.co/bWteTIfPtS
@NOLA_bert The ridiculously large stone axe was a holdover from the trade-format cover, also by Ken Kelly.
Honestly, both of these are near the bottom of my favourite Kelly paintings.
