Although both writers are far too prolific to be any one thing, including always being different from each other — Waid’s INDESTRUCTIBLE HULK and Millar’s STARLIGHT could easily fit into the other writers’ catalogues if you squint a little
Today I read a comic about a pack of supervillains who killed off all the good guys and took over the world. My goodness. Who ever heard of such a thing?
Here begins a thread on Mark Waid and Barry Kitson’s EMPIRE & Mark Millar and JG Jones’ WANTED
Some facts:
-P'Gell is my favorite Spirit character and it's not even close
-The original sketch cover was purchased by (or maybe gifted to?) Joseph Rybandt, our editor at Dynamite
-A lot of Spirit splashes involve him being menaced by a giant sexy woman and I'm into it
P'GELL! A remake of a WILL EISNER'S THE SPIRIT sketch cover Brennan Wagner and I did back in 2015 (Baltimore, I think?) #WillEisnerWeek
Will Eisner, a little past 24, inking some daily Spirit strips in 1941 ✒️ #WillEisnerWeek
To be clear, Superman’s arm is still pretty mushy — his upper arm’s too short and the hand’s slapdash, giving what should be a nice solid right-leaning pose an unfitting sense of weightlessness — but that bit of white on the forearm at least lends some just-add-water depth to it.
I was all thumbs when it came to right arms this week — Superman’s came out undercooked and Dredd’s got lost in the black spotting. I tried to do a couple quick spruces before posting yesterday’s wrap-up: https://t.co/cs6OS4Y7a8
Feel like it was a good week for the ol’ warmup drawings — we’ve got a few familiar faces with Lavender Jack (based off a John Romita Spidey sketch) and The Fowl, plus a nice hearty Golden Age Superman and a DREDD piece for dessert 🥧
I was getting nowhere fast with the page I'm penciling, so you know what? You've had a hard week, here's a Superman
John Cassavetes' THE KILLING OF A CHINESE BOOKIE 🎤
I didn't quite get where I wanted to go with this one, but I dunno -- it was a fun warmup and it's got a little personality to it, and sometimes that's all a thing has to be
