Stanhope Forbes was born in Belfast in 1847 and died in Newlyn in 1947. 'A Fish Sale on a Cornish Beach' debuted in 1885 and was a huge hit, leading other artists to congregate in Newlyn. Forbes became the leader of the 'Newlyn School' art colony on the coast of Cornwall.

Alice Boyd (1825-1897) was the 15th Laird of Penkill and turned Penkill Castle in Ayrshire, Scotland into a centre for Pre-Raphaelite art and artists. This is her painting 'The Thames from Cheyne Walk' from 1875.
