Know any good babysitters for #FossilFriday? This is the ‘Babysitter’ bone bed containing multiple, exceptionally preserved baby Psittacosaurus dinosaurs that were buried alive by an ancient volcanic debris flow.
I know, I know, that’s tragic. But it makes an incredible fossil!
A pair of fighting mammoths – brought to life from one of the most extraordinary fossils you NEVER knew existed! #FossilFriday
The specimen was found in Nebraska, 1962.

Today I’ve been writing about one of the coolest groups of theropod dinosaurs, the penguins.🐧🦖
This is the foot of a giant penguin called Anthropornis grandis. It is roughly 36–38 million years old & was collected from Seymour Island, Antarctica.
Remember, #BirdsAreDinosaurs
Apparently, #Velociraptor is trending.
Just gonna leave this here.
It’s #WhaleWednesday so here’s a…
Wait a minute. That’s not a whale!
This is a giant ichthyosaur. Ichthyosaurs were the first truly gigantic animals to evolve. The largest skeleton is 21 metres long and belongs to the Triassic species, Shonisaurus sikanniensis.
Something a little different for #FossilFriday
When we say fossils are X, Y and Z million years old, it can be hard to place them into a geological timeline.
Reconstructions like this by the excellent Ray Troll really help bring evolution and deep time to life.
Here it is! New paper with @LauraBPorro & @MrIchthyosaurus
Description and digital reconstruction of the largest Protoichthyosaurus. An exceptionally rare, 3D ichthyosaur, which preserves parts of the animal’s braincase and impressions of the brain!

Epic art by the @MesozoicMuse !
Can we take a minute to appreciate just how frigging insane this fossil is.
This is an ichthyosaur with actual skin preserved. Not just that, but even the dorsal and tail fins are preserved! Oh, and the skin around its fins. Ichthyosaurs are epic, just saying #FossilFriday
Deinonychus killing claw and portion of skull with teeth. The real inspiration for the 'raptors' in #JurassicPark With excellent reconstruction (with feathers) by @paleofan #FossilFriday
