Some osteoderms were pathological, but most were not; we noticed that the malformed scutes were not randomly distributed over the body, but rather were concentrated on the flanks over the hip blades, on BOTH sides of the body.
Today we reveal Zuul all put back together and what its completely preserved armor & skin might tell us about armored #dinosaur evolution. #DinoZuul’s injured & healed armor suggest tail clubs were used to fight w other Zuul—and intraspecific combat drove club evolution in anks
@AndyFarke @MetTiinA @BrianEngh_Art @ROMtoronto @CUBoulder Here a pic from our 2011 paper. Regalis on the left.
In addition to describing the new Fruitland Fm skull, we also compare it to a previously undescribed skull showing same anatomy from the Kaiparowits Fm of Utah from @ucmpberkeley, expertly prepped by @ianm222 & drawn by @MesozoicMuse.
Thrilled to join @terryagates & @DinosaurJoe in describing new specimens of Parasaurolophus that FINALLY reveal how that iconic tube crest is actually built. These are the specimens I’ve been dreaming of since grad school- it’s an awesome day.
#HerdMentality: Dinosaurs did it first.
Edmontosaurus FTW. I helped advise on this awesome paleoart for the new @NatGeo mag. #FossilFriday
It’s #FossilFriday! Here are two of my faves from the @ROMtoronto galleries, Lambeosaurus & Parasaurolophus. The museum is OPEN, come by to see them IRL. Beautiful Lambeosaurus recon by @MesozoicMuse.
Excited to share our new research on bone cancer in a dinosaur! In our new paper we diagnose advanced osteosarcoma in a 76 million yr old Centrosaurus. Its been 4 years work w an incredible team of specialists, incl @Dinosaur_MD @crowthrm from @McMasterU & @kchibs @MesozoicMuse
@fossil_huntress @Dave_Hone Also some great illustrations for this project coming from @GreerStothers!
Just thinking it would be neat to see contemporary paleo-artists take on Charles Knight classic #dinosaur murals. Use exact same composition, just update the dinosaurs, plants. Viewed side-by-side, would be neat way of seeing how far our knowledge of dino worlds has come.
