The Cyclown’s Japanese name is called Kamaitachi, which belongs to the yōkai of the same name. The yōkai is usually seen as a dust devil riding weasel with sickles for claws.

While Cyclown doesn’t look like the yōkai in question, Woosh is sharp enough for it to behave like one.

And before anyone says otherwise, Vanish in Dragon Quest 9 is considered as camouflage. While you’re less likely to be targeted or spotted by monsters, that doesn’t mean you’re completely invisible to them.

Malroth/Shido seems to be inspired by Hinduism’s principal deity named Shiva, who is also known as “The Destroyer” within the Trimūrti. Shiva is described to have four arms and blue skin, similar to Malroth with the difference being that his skin is actually scales. (1/?)
