Like a dream! Fresco from the ‘house of the golden bracelet’ at Pompeii
Tomb of Nakht, astronomer of Amun, Theban Tomb 55 (Qurna) reign of King Tuthmose 4 c 1400BC. Last time I was here I couldn’t take photos but NOT this time! Here’s Nakht & family in the marshes. Tender moment of father stroking his daughter's head. Spot the butterfly!
Into my arms, oh lord...
@World_Museum Egypt Gallery shows visitors how the dead would be placed in the embrace of Sky goddess Nut who would protect them from chaos for eternity. She would enfold & protect them for all things evil

We’re curious about Nut’s seemingly white hair. Vera’s going to look into this further...
Nut’s toes curled in the fire that destroyed @World_Museum in May 1941. Take a look closer at the damage on Padiamun’s coffin set online & on display. 1 of the set of 3 coffins was completely destroyed. https://t.co/6B7wjcUfX1
Nice start to the week getting an invite to #BeforeEgypt exhibition @VictoriaGallery which opens on 11 May & features some never before displayed items from @World_Museum collections https://t.co/7zq0MFcfX0
1936 publication of Mereruka & family’s tomb included the most beautiful watercolours inc this unusual scene captioned with hieroglyphs as fattening hyena. More of Joseph Lindon Smith’s artwork on @mfaboston https://t.co/9qeKkIfpV5
In 1840s goldsmith & major Victorian antiquary Joseph Mayer joined the campaign to establish a public museum in Liverpool - @World_Museum - One reason was to keep unoccupied artisans out of pubs. He opened the Egyptian Museum at 8 Colquitt St in 1852 ...but it's now a @BrewDog
If it wasn’t for the artwork & tactile opportunities I’m afraid to say I’d have walked past prehistory displays of tools @MANArqueologico I ❤️ their (consistent) interpretation strategies. To grip a handaxe is the only way to appreciate a hand held device (fits like an iPhone)
