We’re curious about Nut’s seemingly white hair. Vera’s going to look into this further...
Interior of Ditamunpaseneb’s largest coffin has an image of the sky goddess Nut who seems to invite you to step inside her embrace
Came here very quickly looking for pottery parallels in @World_Museum collection but how can I ignore 3 of my favourites in the superb @PetrieMuseEgypt collection?
Another object reunited with (some) provenance - this time a drinking cup (kylix) to make @chrissypartheni smile. Thanks again Miss Tankard for your amazing artistic talent and recording (pictured here before retirement)
& the last @World_Museum object packed away at close of #BeforeEgypt exhibition is this red + cream banded limestone jar that I hope pleased whoever created it 5000 yrs ago. Another excellent partnership between @NML_Muse & @LivUni sharing our collections for public enjoyment
Impressive huge Zeus @MuseoSalinas of same scale as Zeus @World_Museum but more finely dressed in a robe (look at that draping!) not like nude Liverpool with bum out & a modern fig leaf hiding his manhood https://t.co/RcGMQeMd5a
Always telling visitors @World_Museum about how coffins were reused in ancient Egypt. At @MuseoSalinas they have Roman sarcophagi reused 1000 yrs later for Christian burials
Been called a “serpent mummy” since 1852 when the Egyptian Museum opened in Liverpool. As suspected it’s twisted linen tied together. Xray shows nothing else inside. Perhaps was once used to support a round-bottom jar? 🏺
Another object record @World_Museum tidied up!
Tony Parker explaining the origin of the vertebrate zoology collection (& thus the beginning of @NML_Muse ) with 13th Earl of Derby’s gift
