A moment of calm - Grazing by Bernard Safran, oil on masonite, 1987.
I love this happy illustration by Norman Rockwell of a Victorian couple dancing. It was painted for the December cover of The Saturday Evening Post in 1928. It reminds me of Mr. Fezziwig from Dickens' A Christmas Carol.
The Mothers by Bernard Safran, oil on canvas, 1960. This is one of my Dad's first paintings of everyday New Yorkers. I love it - do you know mothers like them? I do. (Dimensions 42"x48")
Here's another example of how my Dad used b and w photos for reference.
The Sanitation Man by Bernard Safran, oil on masonite, 1971, 24"x30".
Dress Ups by Bernard Safran, 1967, oil on masonite. My sister and me in my mother's old party dresses with an antique baby doll named Billy.
35.5"x48".
On the left - my Dad's studio c 1965 with the early version of Medea on the easel. On the right - he cut the painting down and over painted it in 1995, improving it by making it more dramatic and bringing his mature style of painting to it.
Oil painting called "The Mothers" by Bernard Safran, 1960... my Dad found these hard bitten women amusing.
