A study of hands. The varnish has yellowed, but you can see the streaks of grey on the gesso - a technique of Rubens - it adds depth to sheer glazes. Opaque whites come forward, shadows recede (sheer darks).

My mother was a trained artist and painted all her life. She loved to paint and create. She mostly painted children, pets and landscapes. She used the same medium as my father - but painted with thicker, broader strokes.
